Television: Where America Goes to the Movies -Saturday, May 6, 2006 1 pm – 3 pm

The Lake Arrowhead Film Festival is proud to present an informative symposium entitled, “Television: Where America Goes to the Movies.” The symposium will address the development of the made-for-TV movie and will feature an esteemed panel of filmmaking professionals, including producers Harry Sherman and Chrisann Verges, director Joseph Sargent, and world-class cinematographers Jack Cooperman, ASC, Donald M. Morgan, ASC, and William Wages, ASC, along with editor Mike Brown, ACE.

We feel particularly fortunate to have assembled such a distinguished panel here in Lake Arrowhead, and we encourage everyone to attend this informative (and free to the public) symposium.

Longtime Hollywood producer Harry Sherman has worked on dozens of made-for-television movies. But nothing compares to the streak he compiled in the mid 1970’s when, for three consecutive years, his films won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Special – Drama or Comedy. He won in ’76 with Eleanor and Franklin, in ’77 for Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years, and then again in ’78 for The Gathering.

Mr. Sherman, now a Lake Arrowhead resident, also served as producer on several TV series including Cagney and Lacey, McMillan and Wife, and Get Smart.

Chrisann Verges, Producer

Chrisann Verges received the Emmy Award for Outstanding Made for Television Movie for Warm Springs in 2005. Over the years, she has amassed an impressive variety of producer credits including HBO’s Mrs. Harris, Joe Gould’s Secret, Washington Square, Fresh, and the upcoming Christopher Guest film, For Your Consideration. Chrisann also served as producer on the Lifetime Women’s Film Festival and the pilot for the hit series, The Gilmore Girls. She has also produced music videos for Miles Davis, Philip Glass and The Rolling Stones.

Joseph Sargent (dir., Warm Springs) began making movies at age 11 when his uncle gave him an 8mm camera. Since that time, he has directed nearly 100 films, television features, and series episodes. He has been nominated for numerous Emmy and DGA Awards and has won several Outstanding Directing awards. He received the Emmy Award for The Marcus-Nelson Murders, Love is Never Silent, Caroline?, and Miss Rose White. He received the DGA Award for Warm Springs, Something the Lord Made, and The Marcus-Nelson Murders.

Donald M. Morgan, ASC has compiled over 60 credits including such diverse features as the groundbreaking sci-fi film Starman and the eerie thriller Christine. Morgan has earned four Outstanding Achievement Awards in the annual American Society of Cinematographers competition for Murder in Mississippi, Dillinger, Geronimo, and The Siege at Ruby Ridge.

James A. Cressanthis, ASC. James’ credits include TV series, features, telefilms, miniseries, and over 100 music videos. His television credits include The Reagans, Eloise at the Plaza, The Dale Earnhardt Story, Four Minutes, and the CBBS series Ghost Whisperer. James received an Emmy ® nomination for his work on Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows.

A Lake Arrowhead resident, Jack Cooperman, ASC, has earned a reputation as a versatile visual effects cameraman with a special talent for underwater, aerial, and miniature cinematography. A short list of his special photographic credits includes: Titanic, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Star Trek IV, Hook and Top Gun. He was the Director of Special Visual Effects Photography for the miniseries, Winds of War, which won the Emmy in that category.

Mike Brown, ACE is one of the most accomplished editors working today. He has received an Emmy nomination in six of the last nine years, and won twice. He received the Emmy Award for Outstanding Editing for a Miniseries or a Special for Miss Evers’ Boys and for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Miniseries, Movie or Special for Something the Lord Made. He also received the Eddie Award from the American Cinema Editors for Something the Lord Made. Mike was the editor of the Emmy Award winning HBO movie, Warm Springs.
