BEAU BRIDGES
Lake Arrowhead Film Festival
Distinguished Artist Award

Born just two days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he was delivered by candlelight because of a power blackout. Named Lloyd Vernet Bridges III, his parents immediately called him Beau after Ashley Wilkes’ son in Gone with the Wind.

Beau Bridges appeared in his first movies as a child, but becoming an actor wasn’t Bridges’ first dream. He initially wanted to be a basketball star and played for UCLA during his freshman year. In 1965, he landed the role of Fred in the sci-fi film, Village of Giants. More roles in other movies followed and a promising career took flight.

Over the next 40-plus years, Bridges has been nominated for 10 Emmy Awards and has won three times. He received Outstanding Supporting Actor Emmy Awards for his performances in The Positively True Adventures of The Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murder Mom, The Second Civil War, and received the Outstanding Lead Actor Emmy for his role as James Baker in Without Warning: The James Brady Story.

Bridges’ film career includes memorable roles in films such as Norma Rae, Heart Like A Wheel, Jerry Maguire, and Charlotte’s Web. Beau’s role opposite his brother, Jeff, and Michelle Pfeiffer in 1989’s The Fabulous Baker Boys earned him the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor. More recent work has included his role as Major General Hank Landry on Stargate SG-1, and guest spots on My Name is Earl and Will and Grace.

Beau will receive his award during the Gala Awards Dinner on Friday evening. On Saturday, he will present the 2008 Oscarnominated documentary, Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience.
